Land from the Istanbul Canal will create islands

Istanbul is continuing preparations for the construction of Kanal İstanbul - the project promises to become one of the most grandiose in the world. In particular, it was recently decided where to put the land, which will be dug for laying the canal. According to preliminary calculations, about 1.7 billion cubic meters will be extracted.

According to the Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications of Turkey, Ahmet Arslan, the bulk of the land will go to create three artificial islands that will appear on the Istanbul canal. The rest of the land will be taken to agricultural lands.

Let's remind, the Istanbul channel will pass on the territory of areas of Durusu, Sazlidere, and Kucukcekmece and will connect Black and Marmara seas. Its length is 45 kilometers.

Construction is scheduled to begin this year and completed in 2023.
