🇵🇹 Portugal Opens EU Residency Path for Turkish Citizens: Updated D7 Passive Income Visa Rules

Portugal has officially expanded opportunities for long-term residency for Turkish citizens by updating the requirements of the D7 passive income visa program.

📌 New Minimum Income: €870 per month (approximately 43,000 TRY)

📌 Important Eligibility Note

Only passive income is accepted. Salaries, freelance earnings, contract work, or any labour-based income are not eligible.

🧾 What Qualifies as Passive Income?

Eligible sources include:

  • Rental income from property
  • Dividends
  • Interest from bank deposits
  • Pension payments
  • Other stable financial earnings not linked to employment

📌 Key Requirements for the D7 Visa

To apply, Turkish citizens must:

  • Provide proof of passive income of at least €870 / month
  • Open a bank account in Portugal and obtain a NIF tax number
  • Submit a rental contract or property ownership documents in Portugal
  • Provide a clean criminal record certificate
  • Obtain health insurance with coverage of €30,000 or more
  • Present documents confirming overall financial stability

📍 Application Process

The procedure consists of two stages:

1️⃣ Submission in Türkiye

Applicants must file their documents via the:

  • Portuguese Consulate in Türkiye, or
  • Accredited agency AS Visa

Once approved, applicants receive a national visa allowing entry into Portugal for residency procedures.

2️⃣ Residence Permit in Portugal

The first residence permit is issued for 2 years, followed by a 3-year extension.

After 5 years, holders may apply for:

  • Permanent residency, or
  • Portuguese citizenship
