Istanbul to Raise Public Transport Fares by 20%

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) has placed a proposal on the Municipal Council’s agenda to increase public transportation and commercial transport fares by 20%. If approved, the new tariffs will take effect on February 16, 2026.

The proposal was prepared by the Tariff Commission and the Transportation and Traffic Commission. The changes will affect buses, metro lines, metrobuses, minibuses, ferries, taxis, and school buses across Istanbul.

New Public Transport Prices

According to the draft decision:

  • The full electronic ticket will rise from 35 TL to 42 TL.
  • The monthly “Blue Card” pass will increase from 2,748 TL to 3,298 TL.

Regular commuters are expected to feel the impact of the price increase in the coming weeks if the proposal is approved.

Taxi Fare Increases

Taxi tariffs are also set to rise:

  • Taxi meter opening fee: from 54.50 TL to 65.40 TL
  • Per kilometer fare: from 36.30 TL to 43.56 TL
  • Time-based tariff: from 453.71 TL to 544.45 TL
  • Minimum short-distance fare: from 175 TL to 210 TL

The minimum taxi fare will be fixed at 210 TL, even for short trips.

Minibus “Indi-Bindi” Tariffs

Short-distance minibus fares (indi-bindi) will also increase:

  • Up to 4 km: from 32.50 TL to 39 TL
  • 4–7 km: from 34 TL to 41 TL
  • 7–11 km: from 35 TL to 42 TL
  • 11–15 km: from 36 TL to 43 TL
  • 15–20 km: from 39 TL to 47 TL
  • Student fare: from 21 TL to 25 TL

School Bus Fees

The proposal also includes higher school bus tariffs. For distances between 0 and 1 kilometer, the price is expected to increase from 3,376 TL to 4,051 TL.

Additional Changes

In addition to transport fares, the Municipal Council will consider raising the price of iftar menus in municipal wedding and banquet halls operated by İBB. The proposed increase would lift the price from 550 TL to 700 TL, representing a 27.27% rise.

The final decision will be made following a vote by the Istanbul Municipal Council.
