Today Is the Last Day to Pay Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) in Turkey
Today Is the Deadline for Car Tax Payment in Turkey
For vehicle owners in Turkey, today marks the deadline for paying the first installment of the 2026 Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV), as well as any scheduled payments for restructured tax debts. Those who fail to pay by the end of the day will incur late payment interest.
Today Is the Last Day to Pay MTV
The motor vehicle tax is calculated annually by the tax office at the place of vehicle registration in January. Payments are made in two equal installments — in January and July.
The payment period for the first installment in 2026 began on January 1. Since January 31 fell on a weekend, the deadline was extended to Monday, February 2. Late payments will automatically incur penalties.
Where and How to Pay the Tax
MTV can be paid through the following methods:
- via the Digital Tax Office (dijital.gib.gov.tr);
- through the mobile app of the Turkish Tax Authority (GİB);
- using debit or credit cards at authorized banks;
- via bank transfer from an account;
- using foreign bank cards between 00:10 and 23:50.
Payments are also accepted at tax office counters and PTT branches.
Warning About Online Payment Scams: In the Digital Tax Office, payment is possible without a password — using the vehicle number, tax ID (T.C. Kimlik No), and one of the following: registration date or ownership document date. Authorities warn that to avoid fraud, payments should only be made via the official gib.gov.tr website and official bank websites.
MTV Rates Have Increased
For 2026, the motor vehicle tax was raised by 18.95% in line with the targeted inflation rate.
Other Payments Due Today
Starting February 2, the deadline expires not only for MTV but also for a number of other taxes and mandatory payments. All payments must be made by the end of today to avoid fines and interest charges.
