Türkiye Launches “Together Against Violence” Campaign to Combat Violence Against Women

ISTANBUL — On November 25, 2025, the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) launched its new campaign, “Together Against Violence”, in Istanbul, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The initiative aims to raise awareness, promote prevention, and provide support for women across Türkiye through coordinated local outreach and volunteer engagement.

Families of victims attended the event to share their stories, highlighting the urgent need for societal action. KADEM Chair Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar emphasized that violence against women is a persistent reality that requires continuous attention and collective responsibility.

“With our 12 years of advocacy, we work to break the silence surrounding women’s suffering, making the invisible visible and turning awareness into action,” Bayraktar said.

She stressed that even small individual actions can ripple through society, mobilizing communities to protect women and prevent abuse.

Orange Dot Symbol: A Sign of Solidarity

The campaign encourages public participation with the orange dot symbol—KADEM’s corporate color and the UN color for the fight against violence against women.

Wearing orange pins or sharing digital visuals signals solidarity and commitment: “I am here. I will not remain silent.”

Legal Protections and Support Systems

The initiative also highlights existing legal protections, including:

  • Law No. 6284: Provides restraining orders and protective measures for women at risk
  • 183 Hotline: 24/7 social support line for immediate assistance
  • KADES App: Emergency alert system that can deliver help within minutes

The campaign calls for more effective enforcement of existing laws and wider public knowledge of available support systems.

Celebrity Support and Victim Testimonies

Celebrities and public figures, including Kenan Imirzalıoğlu, joined the launch to amplify the message. Families of victims, including parents of Pınar and Başak Gültekin, shared powerful testimonies of their personal losses, reinforcing the campaign’s mission to prevent further tragedies and support survivors.

These testimonies served as a stark reminder of the human cost of violence against women and the urgent need for action.

A Coordinated National Effort

KADEM’s campaign represents a coordinated effort to strengthen Türkiye’s societal response, promote justice, and foster a culture of awareness, empathy, and protection for women nationwide.

Through local outreach, volunteer engagement, and public education, “Together Against Violence” aims to create lasting change in communities across the country.
