Tour de France L’Étape Race in Marmaris 2026
Tour de France Amateur Series Comes to Marmaris
The coastal resort of Marmaris in southwestern Turkey’s Muğla province is preparing to become a global cycling destination as it hosts the L’Étape Marmaris by Tour de France on June 7.
The event is part of the official amateur series of the legendary Tour de France, allowing cyclists to experience the intensity and atmosphere of a real stage of the Grand Tour.
L’Étape by Tour de France is a global series held across 35 cities in 20 countries, organized by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the official organizer of the Tour de France, in collaboration with Turkish event company 78 Event.
Participants will face challenging routes inspired by mountain stages of the Tour de France, set against the natural beauty of Marmaris. Top finishers in each age category will qualify for L’Étape du Tour in France.
Local authorities highlight that Marmaris is an ideal destination for cycling thanks to its climate, terrain, and accessibility. They also emphasize the event’s role in boosting sports tourism in the region.
Beyond competition, the race is seen as a long-term project designed to inspire the next generation of athletes and promote an active lifestyle.
With this event, Turkey becomes one of the few countries hosting two L’Étape stages in a single year. The second event, L’Étape Türkiye by Tour de France, will take place in Istanbul on September 20.
Turkey joined the L’Étape series recently. The first event was held in Istanbul in October 2024, attracting around 3,000 amateur cyclists from 50 countries across long, short, and family routes on both sides of the city.
The event returned to Istanbul last October with over 2,000 participants, offering routes across the Bosphorus and through urban and rural areas. Top riders earned qualification for international L’Étape races in France.
Registration for both Marmaris and Istanbul events is currently open.
