Today is the National Holiday of Children in Turkey

The Republic of Turkey marks a big National Day today – the day of the Protection of Children and the Day of National Sovereignty.
According to the history, on April 23rd/1920, the first Turkish President Mustafa Kemal Ataturk delivered a speech where he stated that children are the future of all mankind, its main asset. Since then, a big holiday has been celebrated all over Turkey since then.
Children will be replaced for the period of all high-ranking official and will “lead” Turkey. Even the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will give way to his child. Children will be congratulated and gifts will be given to them.
Today is an official weekend all around the state and many commercial establishments will be made.
