Turkey Implements Changes to Payment System Integration with TROY

According to a new decree published in Turkey’s Official Gazette, credit and debit cards issued by state banks Ziraat Bankası, VakıfBank, and Halkbank will now be automatically linked to the national payment system, TROY, by default.

Previously, cards were issued with logos from international systems such as Mastercard and VISA. However, moving forward, new and renewed cards will be automatically integrated with TROY. Customers may still request cards featuring Mastercard or VISA logos, which the banks will provide free of charge.

The TROY payment system was established in 2015 by the Central Bank of Turkey in collaboration with ten banks, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign payment systems. This initiative seeks to strengthen the country’s financial independence and support its national economy.
