🇹🇷 Türkiye to offer cash incentives for soap TV series promoting the country

The Turkish government has announced it will provide financial support to producers of soap TV series that highlight Türkiye and its language, aiming to boost the country’s image abroad.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said, “We will provide support of up to the equivalent of 100,000 U.S. dollars per episode for series broadcast internationally.”

📺 Turkish series go global

Turkish dramas, or dizi, are now available in 170 countries, with global demand increasing by 184% between 2020 and 2023, according to Parrot Analytics. Minister Ersoy described Turkish series as a “global brand” reaching nearly one billion viewers across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

With export revenues exceeding $1 billion, Türkiye’s television industry is now among the world’s top three markets in terms of sales and export power.

📋 How productions qualify

To receive government incentives, productions must:

  • Promote Türkiye and its language.
  • Target countries important for Turkish tourism.
  • Meet certain ratings and viewership benchmarks.

The ministry also promised to simplify bureaucratic procedures for filming, including the free use of historical and cultural sites.

“This move reinforces Türkiye’s strategy to leverage its booming television industry as a tool for cultural diplomacy and international visibility.”
