Turkish Airlines Builds World's Largest Cargo Terminal
Turkish Airlines to Build World’s Largest Cargo Terminal with $2.3B Investment
Turkish Airlines has announced a landmark investment of over 100 billion Turkish liras (around $2.3 billion) to construct what it claims will be the world’s largest cargo terminal and in-flight catering facility. The project is expected to create 26,000 new jobs and significantly expand the airline’s logistics and catering capacities.
Strategic Expansion to Support Global Ambitions
In a statement on social platform NSosyal, Turkish Airlines said,
“Türkiye is growing, Turkish Airlines is soaring.”
While the exact location of the facilities has not been disclosed, they are likely to be in Istanbul, the airline’s main international hub and the country’s commercial center.
Fleet and Network Growth
The investment comes amid the airline’s aggressive expansion strategy. CEO Bilal Eksi recently announced that Turkish Airlines aims to rank among the world’s top five carriers by 2033, with a planned fleet of 813 aircraft. Currently, at the end of 2025, the airline operates 514 aircraft, serving over 85 million passengers and transporting 2 million tons of cargo annually.
Strengthening Türkiye’s Role as a Global Aviation Hub
The new facilities will bolster Istanbul’s position as a major international transit and logistics hub. With world-class cargo and catering infrastructure, Turkish Airlines aims to capture a larger share of global air freight and passenger markets, leveraging Türkiye’s strategic geographic location.
Information This investment marks one of the largest single infrastructure projects in global aviation this year.
