Medicine Day in Türkiye Highlights the Life‑Saving Work of Medical Teams

Every year on March 14, Türkiye celebrates Medicine Day, honoring the dedication of doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to save lives.

Emergency care around the clock

Emergency departments across the country operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, often under intense pressure. Medical teams must respond quickly to a wide range of critical situations, including heart attacks, strokes, severe trauma, pediatric emergencies and pregnancy‑related complications. In these moments, every second can make the difference between life and death.

Triage: red, yellow, green

Hospitals use a triage system that categorizes patients into red, yellow and green zones, depending on the severity of their condition. This system allows medical teams to prioritize the most urgent cases.

Obstetric & pediatric emergency

Specialized units such as obstetric and pediatric emergency departments play a particularly important role. Obstetric teams are responsible for the safety of both mother and baby during unexpected pregnancy complications, while pediatric emergency specialists treat children in critical conditions and work closely with nurses and support staff to ensure fast and effective care.

Teamwork saves lives

Healthcare professionals emphasize that teamwork is essential in emergency medicine. Doctors, nurses and hospital staff must act in perfect coordination, often working long and exhausting shifts to provide immediate treatment to patients in need.

A deeply meaningful calling

Despite the demanding nature of the job, medical teams say that saving lives and supporting families during their most difficult moments makes their work deeply meaningful.

Medicine Day serves as an opportunity to recognize the commitment, professionalism and compassion of healthcare workers across Türkiye who dedicate their lives to protecting the health and well‑being of society.
