New Metro to Ankara Esenboğa Airport Starts 2026

Metro Construction to Ankara Esenboğa Airport to Begin in 2026

Construction of a new metro line connecting Ankara’s High-Speed Train (YHT) Station to Esenboğa Airport is set to begin in 2026, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced.

Originally planned to start from Kuyubaşı Station, the line has been redesigned to begin at the YHT Station for better integration with Ankara’s transport network. The 36-kilometer line will include 12 stations and aims to meet growing passenger demand.

“The project has been carefully studied to ensure full integration with the city’s transport system. We are now in the final planning stage and aim to start construction next year,” said Minister Uraloğlu.

Starting the metro at the YHT Station will create a key connectivity hub for passengers traveling to and from the airport. The ministry has also recently expanded and modernized Ankara’s metro lines, bringing the total rail system to over 103 kilometers.

The new metro line is expected to improve accessibility to Esenboğa Airport and enhance urban mobility across Ankara.
