New Bypass Road and Demirtaş Interchange Open in Alanya

New Bypass Road and Demirtaş Interchange Open in Alanya

Two major infrastructure projects aimed at significantly reducing traffic congestion have been officially opened in Alanya — the Eastern Bypass Road and the Demirtaş multi-level interchange. The opening ceremony was attended by Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu and Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

Transit Traffic Diverted Outside the City

The construction of the Eastern Bypass Road became necessary as the former route had effectively turned into an inner-city road and could no longer handle heavy traffic volumes of up to 33,000 vehicles per day. The new route diverts transit traffic away from the coastal and residential areas, significantly easing congestion on city streets, especially during the summer tourist season.

Tunnels, Bridges and Time Savings

A 12-kilometre section between Hasbahçe and Mahmutlar has been opened, featuring:

  • Three twin-tube tunnels (Oba, Dim and Mahmutlar) with a total length of 2,708 metres.
  • Seven two-lane bridges.

Once the entire project is completed, the route will be 3 kilometres shorter, and travel time will be reduced from 35 minutes to just 10 minutes.

Economic and Environmental Impact

According to official estimates, the project will generate annual savings of approximately TRY 3.796 billion through reduced travel time and fuel consumption. In addition, carbon dioxide emissions are expected to decrease by around 11,000 tonnes per year.

“This is not just a road — it is an investment in Alanya’s future, reducing urban pressure, saving time and money, and contributing to environmental sustainability,” said Minister of Transport Abdulkadir Uraloğlu at the ceremony.

Demirtaş Interchange: Non-Stop Traffic Flow

On the Alanya–Gazipaşa highway, where traffic jams were common during the summer months, the Demirtaş junction has been transformed into a multi-level interchange with a 35-metre underground passage. This upgrade ensures uninterrupted traffic flow and provides additional annual savings of approximately TRY 19.2 million.

Investments and Future Projects

Minister Uraloğlu also stated that construction of the Antalya–Alanya motorway is progressing at an accelerated pace, and that total transport investments in the region over the past 23 years have reached TRY 245 billion.

Former Foreign Minister and MP Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu added that Alanya continues to see progress in projects related to:

  1. Natural gas infrastructure.
  2. An Olympic swimming pool.
  3. Agricultural irrigation systems.

A New Stage in Alanya’s Development

The opening of the Eastern Bypass Road and the Demirtaş Interchange is part of the national "Turkey: Gateway to the World" programme and marks a new phase in Alanya’s transformation — from a tourist destination into a modern city suitable for year-round living.
