Fixed Speed Cameras in Turkey: Driver Alert

With the upcoming Ramazan Bayram holiday, traffic on Turkish roads increases. Speed and road safety are actively monitored using fixed speed cameras, which continue to operate during the holidays. Locations of fixed cameras are now publicly known across the country.

📸 how fixed speed cameras work: Fixed cameras are installed on platforms above the road and measure vehicle speed. Monitoring is also done through TEDES poles (road shoulders/median). Exceeding limits triggers automatic fines to the license plate.

⚠️ Speed Limit Tolerances: 5 and 10 km/h

According to changes in the Traffic Law, the new rules limit speed tolerance:

  • Urban areas: up to 5 km/h over the limit
  • Intercity roads: up to 10 km/h over the limit

Exceeding these limits automatically results in a fine.

📏 examples in practice:
90 km/h limit → fine starts at 100 km/h
110 km/h limit → fine starts at 120 km/h
130 km/h limit → fine starts at 140 km/h
140 km/h limit → fine starts at 150 km/h

🏙️ Fines in Urban Areas

The general speed limit in cities is 50 km/h. Fines are applied starting at 56 km/h:

6–10 km/h over 2,000 TL
11–15 km/h 4,000 TL
16–20 km/h 6,000 TL
21–25 km/h 8,000 TL
26–35 km/h 12,000 TL
36–45 km/h 15,000 TL
46–55 km/h 20,000 TL
56–65 km/h 25,000 TL
66 km/h and above 30,000 TL

🛣️ Fines on Intercity Roads

Speed limits depend on the type of road:

  • Two-lane roads — 90 km/h
  • Divided highways — 110 km/h
  • State highways — 130 km/h
  • Toll highways (BOT) — 140 km/h

Fines are applied as follows (over the limit):

11–15 km/h over 2,000 TL
16–20 km/h 4,000 TL
21–25 km/h 6,000 TL
26–30 km/h 8,000 TL
31–40 km/h 12,000 TL
41–50 km/h 15,000 TL
51–60 km/h 20,000 TL
61–70 km/h 25,000 TL
71 km/h and above 30,000 TL
🚨 maximum fine: 30,000 TL for extreme speeding (66+ km/h over in cities, 71+ km/h over on intercity roads).

📍 Where to Check Fixed Speed Cameras

Information on fixed speed cameras and electronic monitoring systems is available on the Turkish National Police website. Mobile radars and patrol cars on the roadside are not shown on the website. Mobile radars are cars equipped with antennas, and warning signs “Radar Hız Kontrolü” are placed on the roadside before radar points.
