Erdoğan-EU official meetings took place in positive atmosphere: EC spox
European Commission (EC) spokesperson Margaritis Schinas said Monday that last week's meetings between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and European Union officials took place in a "positive and constructive atmosphere."

Speaking at a daily press conference at the EC headquarters in Brussels, Schinas said that common interests between the partners were discussed, adding that the EU and Turkey would continue cooperation.

Schinas also emphasized that Turkey-EU relations had entered "a new period," during which the two sides agreed to take joint action to preserve common interests.

Last Wednesday, President Erdoğan met with EU Council President Donald Tusk and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on the sidelines of the NATO leaders summit in Brussels. After the tripartite meeting, Erdoğan also held a bilateral discussion for about 30 minutes with Juncker.

The president also met with European Parliament President Antonio Tajani.
The meetings underlined the need to restore Turkey-EU relations and to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
