Ankara Officially Named 2026 Turkic World Tourism Capital
Turkey’s capital Ankara has officially received the prestigious title of 2026 Turkic World Tourism Capital, following a symbolic handover ceremony held in Manas, Kyrgyzstan.

Official Decision and Symbolic Handover
According to the Ankara Governor’s Office, the decision was formally approved during the meeting of tourism ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) on July 9, 2025.
The ceremonial transfer took place in Manas (Jalal-Abad region), where the symbolic key of the title was presented by Manas Mayor Ernisbek Ormokov to Ankara Deputy Governor Izzettin Sevgili and Ankara Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Erhan Karakaya.
"The Turkic World Tourism Capital initiative aims to strengthen cultural cooperation among member states, promote shared heritage, and increase the international visibility of tourism destinations across the Turkic world."
A Year-Long Program of Cultural Events in 2026
Throughout 2026, Ankara will host an extensive schedule of cultural and tourism events to mark this significant designation.
Key Coordinators: The program will be coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ankara Governorship.
Activities will involve broad participation from:

- Academic circles
- Civil society organizations
