Turkey: Driver in Alanya Fined 276,000 TL for Illegal Use of Emergency Lights
A driver in the Antalya province town of Alanya has been fined 276,344 Turkish lira for using emergency vehicle lights without authorization.
Incident Details
According to the gendarmerie in the Konaklı district, officers stopped a car driving with active sirens and flashing lights. Upon inspection, it was confirmed that neither the driver nor the vehicle had the legal right to use special emergency signals.
Under Article 26/2 of Law No. 2918, both the driver and the vehicle owner received the administrative fine.
Additional Penalties
- The vehicle has been banned from use for 30 days
- The driver has had his license temporarily suspended for 30 days
- Legal proceedings have been initiated regarding the violation
Turkish authorities have been tightening penalties for the unauthorized use of emergency lights in an effort to curb misuse and prevent drivers from posing as official or priority vehicles.
