How to Buy and Register a Car or Motorcycle in Turkey as a Foreigner in 2026

How to Buy and Register a Car or Motorcycle in Turkey as a Foreigner in 2026

Obtaining a work permit (çalışma izni) through your own business in Turkey requires careful attention to the legal and economic structure of the company. Government authorities evaluate not only the company registration but also the actual business activity, the logic behind appointing a foreigner, and the consistency of documents with the real situation.

Common Mistakes When Applying for a Work Permit through a Business

  • Formal company registration: if the company exists only on paper, has no business activity, no clients, turnover, or real business logic, this is a serious red flag for the Ministry regarding the legal weakness of the setup.
  • Unjustified foreigner position: the government evaluates how logical the foreigner’s appointment is for the business. If the role seems formal or unrelated to the company’s real needs, the chances of obtaining a permit decrease.
  • Mismatch between documents and reality: any contradictions between official papers and actual company activity may lead to a refusal.

What Matters When Obtaining a çalışma izni

Key factors for successfully obtaining a work permit through a business:

  • Correctly chosen legal form of the company;
  • Properly defined role for the foreigner;
  • Presence of real economic activity;
  • Logical organizational structure;
  • Consistency of documents with actual business operations;
  • Compliance with capital, turnover, and employment requirements, if applicable;
  • No contradictions between declared and actual activities.

Choosing a Legal Form: Sole Proprietorship, LTD, or A.Ş.

There is no universal solution — each form has its features:

  • Sole Proprietorship (Bireysel İşletme) — suitable for simple activities when a foreign entrepreneur has a strong connection to Turkey and a clear business model. From a work permit perspective, this option can be more sensitive, as authorities check how real the activity is.
  • LTD (Limited Şirketi) — the most common form for foreign entrepreneurs. Provides a legal entity, a more predictable corporate structure, and the ability to officially hire employees.
  • A.Ş. (Anonim Şirket) — justified for large projects, investments, scaling, and complex management. Requires more capital and stricter reporting, but demonstrates the seriousness of the business.

How to Evaluate the Model for a Work Permit

When choosing a structure, don’t only consider which form is easier to open. The main question is: “Which structure will be legally logical, economically justified, and viable for obtaining a work permit?”

To successfully obtain a çalışma izni, it is important to:

  • Conduct a legal analysis of the company;
  • Determine who will be the applicant and on what basis;
  • Check whether the company structure matches the actual business model;
  • Identify weak points in the documents and address them in advance;
  • Ensure real economic activity with verifiable turnover, clients, and business logic.

Conclusion

When obtaining a work permit through a business in Turkey, the decisive factor is not the name of the legal form but a competent combination of legal structure, foreigner’s role, investments, and real activity. Even opening a sole proprietorship does not guarantee success if the model is purely formal. Conversely, a properly structured LTD or A.Ş., with real activity and logical organization, significantly increases the chances of a positive outcome.

A comprehensive approach to legal analysis and document preparation allows building a business in Turkey with a real perspective of obtaining a work permit.
