Türkiye's 2053 Net-Zero Goal & Green Development Vision

Türkiye's 2053 Net-Zero Goal & Green Development Vision

🇹🇷 Türkiye Taking Firm Steps Toward a Greener Future and 2053 Net-Zero Goal 🌿

Türkiye is accelerating its environmental transformation as part of its long-term vision to achieve net-zero emissions by 2053, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on Monday during National Afforestation Day events in Ankara. 🌱

Over the past 23 years, the country has planted 7.5 billion saplings and seeds, expanding its forested areas to 23.4 million hectares — now covering 30% of Türkiye's territory. 🌳 Erdoğan said this milestone reflects the nation's "deep-rooted respect for nature" and commitment to combating climate change.

"We are members of a faith that teaches, 'Even if you know the world will end tomorrow, plant the sapling in your hand,'" Erdoğan said, adding that forests are "the breath and source of life" for the nation. 💚

Global Recognition in Forest Expansion 🌏

According to UN data, Türkiye ranked sixth globally in 2020 for expanding forested land and has now advanced to fourth place by 2025. In terms of annual afforestation, the country holds third place worldwide — a notable achievement in its regional and global environmental efforts.

Success: Türkiye has climbed to 4th place globally in forest expansion and 3rd in annual afforestation area according to UN data.

Tribute to Forestry Heroes 🌲

The president also paid tribute to 160 forestry workers who lost their lives while battling wildfires, including 17 this past summer, emphasizing that "every tree planted keeps their legacy alive."

New National Campaign 🌼

Launching a new campaign under the motto "Our Witness is the Soil, Our Signature is the Sapling, Our Love is the Green Homeland," Erdoğan announced that Türkiye aims to plant at least 550 million new saplings this year, with hopes of surpassing 600 million through public participation and nationwide volunteer programs.

Important: Since 2019, November 11 has been celebrated as National Afforestation Day, inspired by an environmental activist's proposal and designed to promote awareness and civic involvement in protecting nature.

Green Development Revolution 🌎💫

Erdoğan reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to the Green Development Revolution, calling it a cornerstone of the country's sustainable future:

"Our goal is to ensure that Türkiye's growth continues in harmony with nature — a legacy we will leave for future generations."
