New Technologies at Airports in Turkey
New Technologies Introduced at Airports in Turkey
New digital solutions are being implemented at airports across Turkey — including Antalya Airport, Istanbul Airport, Milas–Bodrum Airport, and Dalaman Airport — as part of the HGBS program aimed at modernizing passenger services and improving airport efficiency.
The initiative is being carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey and focuses on reducing queues, increasing automation, and making airport procedures faster and more convenient for passengers.
What is changing for passengers
Airports across the country are gradually introducing a range of self-service and digital systems designed to streamline travel processes:
- Self-service check-in kiosks for faster flight registration
- Self Bag Drop systems allowing passengers to independently check in luggage
- Automatic baggage weighing and tag printing without staff assistance
- Optimized passenger flow management through smart queue monitoring systems
These technologies are designed to reduce waiting times and distribute passenger traffic more efficiently across terminals.
Smart passenger flow management
In addition to self-service tools, airports are introducing intelligent monitoring systems that analyze congestion levels in real time. When queues form, passengers are redirected to less crowded security or passport control lanes, improving overall flow and reducing delays.
The goal of the modernization program is to improve passenger experience through automation and digitalization while reducing congestion in major airport hubs.
Where the system is already active
The new technologies are being implemented in major airports across Turkey, including:
- Istanbul Airport (IST)
- Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW)
- Antalya Airport (AYT)
- Dalaman Airport (DLM)
- Milas–Bodrum Airport (BJV)
According to official data, 14 airports have already been fully equipped with the new system, while installation and configuration are ongoing in 32 additional airports nationwide.
Important note
Official statements confirm the expansion of digital services and automation in Turkish airports. However, some reports regarding biometric control and additional technologies have not been officially confirmed.
