Free Water System Introduced in All Turkish Airports
Free Drinking Water to Be Introduced in All Turkish Airports
Free drinking water infrastructure will be installed in all 58 airports across Türkiye in the near future. The initiative is being carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye.
Purpose of the Initiative
According to Turkish media reports, the program aims to address one of the most common complaints from passengers: high prices of bottled water in airports. In airport cafés and vending machines, the price of water can range from 2 to 6 euros, which has caused dissatisfaction among both local and international travelers.
The high cost of basic necessities in airports has been a key factor behind the decision to introduce free drinking water dispensers.
Current Implementation Status
According to the newspaper Sabah, 21 free water dispensers providing both hot and cold water have already been installed at Istanbul Airport, the largest aviation hub in Türkiye. These units are located in departure, transit, and waiting areas.
However, officials note that this number is still insufficient given the high passenger traffic at the airport, which handles approximately 1,500 flights per day.
Nationwide Rollout Plan
- 14 airports have already been fully equipped with free drinking water systems
- Installation is ongoing in 32 additional airports
- The program will cover all 58 airports in Türkiye
Water dispensers and drinking fountains will be placed in key passenger zones, including check-in areas, departure gates, and arrival halls.
Government Statement
Authorities emphasize that the project is designed to improve passenger comfort and raise service standards across Türkiye’s aviation network.
The initiative aims to enhance accessibility to basic services and improve the overall travel experience for millions of passengers each year.
Conclusion
The introduction of free drinking water in Turkish airports is expected to become one of the most significant passenger-focused improvements in the country’s aviation infrastructure. The project addresses both affordability and service quality, contributing to a more comfortable travel experience for millions of travelers annually.
