🛢️ Türkiye and Iraq Agree on New Oil Partnership
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Türkiye and Iraq have reached a preliminary agreement under which Iraq could supply up to 1 million barrels of oil per day to Türkiye.
The announcement followed an official meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.
✅ If implemented, the agreement would become one of the largest energy cooperation projects between Türkiye and Iraq in recent years.
⛽ A New Energy Agreement
Following the talks, both countries announced plans to sign a new comprehensive energy agreement after the current Iraq–Türkiye oil pipeline deal expires.
"Iraq can supply Türkiye with one million barrels of oil per day. This will reduce our dependence on other sources and strengthen energy cooperation between our two neighboring countries," President Erdoğan said.
🏭 TPAO Expands Its Presence in Iraq
President Erdoğan also revealed that Türkiye's state-owned oil company TPAO has acquired a stake in the Kirkuk oil field, one of Iraq's largest oil-producing regions.
ℹ️ The move is expected to strengthen long-term energy cooperation between the two countries.
🤝 Cooperation Beyond Energy
During the meeting, the leaders also discussed cooperation in:
- ⚡ Energy and natural resources.
- 🚆 Transport and logistics.
- 📈 Trade and investment.
- 🛡️ Security and counterterrorism.
- 🌍 Regional issues, including developments in Iran, Syria, and Palestine.
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Development Road project, which aims to connect Iraq with international trade routes through Türkiye.
📊 Growing Economic Ties
According to President Erdoğan, trade between Türkiye and Iraq reached nearly 17 billion US dollars in 2025.
Both governments now plan to further expand economic cooperation through new business, infrastructure, and investment projects.
📌 The proposed oil supplies are subject to the final signing and implementation of the new bilateral energy agreement.
