Türkiye joins international fishing tournament near Russia's Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant

Anglers from 12 countries, including Türkiye, gathered on Lake Udomlya in Russia for an international fishing tournament organized by Rosatom.

The fourth International Fishing Tournament was held on September 29, 2026, on Lake Udomlya, next to Russia's Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant in the city of Udomlya.

Participants from Europe, Asia, Africa and Türkiye took part in the event, which combined a fishing competition with attention to the condition of the local aquatic ecosystem.

Fishing tournament held beside a nuclear power plant

The tournament was organized by Rosatom and brought together anglers from 12 countries. Its location near the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant made the event notable for its focus on environmental monitoring and the condition of the surrounding ecosystem.

According to the organizers, the competition provided an opportunity for participants to observe the lake environment and discuss environmental monitoring around nuclear facilities.

The event was held on Lake Udomlya, directly next to the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant, and was attended by anglers from 12 countries.

Türkiye among international participants

Türkiye was represented alongside participants from 11 other countries. The international line-up brought together anglers from different regions, including Europe, Asia and Africa.

The event combined an international sporting competition with an opportunity to draw attention to local ecosystems and environmental monitoring.

Why Lake Udomlya is important

Lake Udomlya is located in Russia's Tver region and is situated next to the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant. The lake and surrounding area are therefore relevant to environmental monitoring connected with the operation of the nuclear facility.

The fishing tournament focused on the aquatic environment around the plant, giving participants an opportunity to take part in an event that combined sport, international cooperation and attention to local ecological conditions.

The tournament itself does not indicate any change in the operation or safety status of the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant. It was an international fishing event held on the nearby lake.

An international event

The fourth edition of the tournament brought together participants from several continents. The participation of anglers from Türkiye added another international element to the event and highlighted the cross-border nature of the competition.

Events of this kind can attract attention not only because of the sporting competition, but also because of their unusual location and the opportunity to discuss the condition of aquatic ecosystems near major industrial facilities.
