Turkish Confectionery Eyes Growth in the U.S. Market

Turkish Confectionery Industry Targets Growth in the U.S. Market

Türkiye’s confectionery industry is setting its sights on expanding exports to the United States, where the sweets and confectionery market is valued at approximately 50 billion U.S. dollars. A new report prepared by the Sweet Türkiye platform, with support from the Ministry of Trade and the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM), highlights significant opportunities for Turkish manufacturers.

The report concludes that Türkiye’s traditional desserts and rich culinary heritage provide a strong competitive advantage in international markets.

Traditional Turkish Sweets Offer a Unique Advantage

According to the study, several iconic Turkish confectionery products have little or no direct competition in the U.S. market.

  • Turkish delight.
  • Halva.
  • Dried fruit-coated confectionery.
  • Baklava-style desserts.

The report notes that these products stand out thanks to their authentic recipes, cultural heritage, and distinctive flavors, making them attractive to consumers seeking premium international foods.

Understanding American Consumer Preferences

Researchers found that American consumers often choose convenient snacks that provide quick energy throughout the day.

Popular consumption occasions include:

  • Work breaks.
  • Driving and commuting.
  • Watching television at home.
  • Children's school lunches.
  • Sporting events and outdoor activities.

The report recommends that Turkish producers adapt flavors and packaging to local consumer preferences while maintaining high product quality.

Strong Export Performance Continues

Türkiye’s confectionery sector maintained strong international performance in 2025.

  • Exports of sugar confectionery and chocolate products reached 4.5 billion U.S. dollars.
  • The sector exported approximately 1.175 million tonnes of products.
  • Confectionery accounted for around 1.6% of Türkiye’s total exports, which reached 273.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2025.

Innovation Supports Future Growth

The report attributes the industry's success to continuous modernization, investment in advanced production technologies, and the development of higher-value products that meet international quality standards.

Experts believe that combining Türkiye’s traditional confectionery heritage with modern production methods and effective marketing strategies can significantly strengthen the country's position in the U.S. sweets market.

As global demand for authentic international foods continues to grow, Turkish confectionery producers see the United States as one of their most promising export destinations in the coming years.
