New Trade Corridor Between Turkey and Saudi Arabia
New Trade Corridor Between Turkey and Saudi Arabia
Turkey’s Minister of Trade, Ömer Bolat, announced the signing of an agreement with Riyadh to establish a new logistics corridor connecting Turkey and Saudi Arabia through the territories of Syria and Jordan.
The primary purpose of this corridor is to ensure the uninterrupted transportation of goods that are currently unable to pass through the strategically sensitive Strait of Hormuz.
How the Corridor Will Function
Truck drivers operating along this route will receive temporary transit visas for the duration of the corridor’s operation. This measure is intended to guarantee continuous and legally simplified cargo movement across multiple borders.
- Special transit permissions for freight drivers
- Cross-border coordination between participating countries
- Reduced dependency on maritime chokepoints
Economic and Strategic Importance
Ankara expects that the new route will contribute to increased export volumes while maintaining imports “at an acceptable level,” according to official statements.
The ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel has significantly impacted Turkey’s supply chains, particularly in the delivery of:
- Petrochemicals
- Industrial chemicals
- Fertilizers
Reducing Dependence on the Strait of Hormuz
“This route will allow Turkey to diversify supplies and reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz,” Ömer Bolat stated.
By diversifying logistics options and establishing land-based trade alternatives, Turkey aims to strengthen its resilience against geopolitical risks affecting maritime trade routes.
