NATO Summit Generates 900 Million Lira for Ankara

Turkey's capital has recorded a significant economic boost following the 36th NATO Summit held on July 7–8. According to official estimates, the international event generated approximately 900 million Turkish lira in additional revenue for Ankara.

The summit brought together thousands of delegates, government officials, diplomats, security personnel, journalists, and support staff from NATO member states and partner countries. Their arrival significantly increased demand for accommodation, transportation, dining, and retail services across the city.

Hotels and Tourism Sector Benefit the Most

The hospitality industry was among the biggest beneficiaries of the summit. Around 5,500 official delegates stayed in Ankara's hotels during the event, while the total number of international visitors exceeded 7,000 people.

High occupancy rates were reported across many hotels, particularly those located near government institutions, conference venues, and diplomatic districts.

Local Businesses See Strong Growth

The influx of visitors also boosted revenue for:

  • Hotels and accommodation providers;
  • Restaurants, cafés, and catering services;
  • Taxi companies and transportation services;
  • Shopping centers and retail businesses.

Business representatives noted that international summits create substantial short-term economic activity while also helping promote Ankara as a destination for global conferences and diplomatic events.

The 36th NATO Summit generated an estimated 900 million Turkish lira in additional revenue for Ankara, demonstrating the economic value of hosting major international events.

Ankara Strengthens Its Position as an International Conference Hub

Beyond its political significance, the NATO Summit highlighted Ankara's ability to successfully host large-scale international meetings. The event showcased the city's infrastructure, hospitality sector, transportation network, and conference facilities to thousands of foreign visitors.

Experts note that hosting major diplomatic gatherings not only provides an immediate economic boost but also contributes to the city's international reputation, supporting future tourism, business travel, and investment opportunities.
