Montenegro Introduces Visas for Turkish Citizens

Montenegro Introduces Visas for Turkish Citizens

✈️ Montenegro Introduces Visa Requirement for Turkish Citizens from November 1

Montenegro will introduce a visa requirement for Turkish citizens starting November 1, 2026. The decision is part of the country's efforts to align its visa policy with European Union regulations as it continues its EU accession process.

📌 Turkish citizens can continue to travel to Montenegro without a visa until October 31, 2026.

🌍 Which Countries Are Affected?

According to Montenegro's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visa requirements will apply to citizens of five countries:

  • 🇹🇷 Türkiye
  • 🇨🇳 China
  • 🇷🇺 Russia
  • 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia
  • 🇧🇾 Belarus

From November 1, travelers from these countries will need to obtain a visa before entering Montenegro.

🇪🇺 Why Is Montenegro Changing the Rules?

The change is part of Montenegro's commitment to harmonize its immigration and visa policies with European Union standards.

The government considers this an important step toward completing the country's EU accession negotiations and becoming a future member of the European Union.

ℹ️ Montenegro aims to join the European Union in the coming years and is gradually aligning its legislation with EU requirements.

📅 Previous Changes for Turkish Travelers

Montenegro temporarily suspended visa-free travel for Turkish citizens in October 2025 before restoring it in December of the same year.

However, the maximum visa-free stay was reduced from 90 days to 30 days.

The new visa requirement will officially replace the current visa-free regime for Turkish citizens beginning on November 1, 2026.

📌 What Travelers Should Know

Anyone planning to visit Montenegro after November 1 should check the latest visa application procedures before traveling and prepare the required documents in advance.

✅ Until October 31, 2026, Turkish citizens may continue to enter Montenegro under the current visa-free rules.
