Court Dismisses Part of Musk’s Lawsuit Against OpenAI

Reuters: Court Rejects One of Elon Musk’s Lawsuits Against OpenAI

A U.S. court has dismissed one of the lawsuits filed by Elon Musk against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, according to Reuters.

The case was part of Musk’s broader legal action accusing OpenAI of abandoning its original non-profit mission and shifting toward a commercial model.

Court decision

The judge rejected claims related to alleged fraud, including accusations that OpenAI and Sam Altman betrayed the company’s founding principles.

However, the court will continue to examine other parts of the lawsuit, including claims related to breach of charitable obligations and unjust enrichment.

Background of the dispute

Elon Musk, one of OpenAI’s co-founders, filed the lawsuit in March, arguing that the organization violated its original agreement to remain a non-profit entity.

The dispute centers on OpenAI’s transition toward a for-profit structure supported by Microsoft, which Musk claims contradicts the 2015 founding agreement.

Related developments

Earlier, reports indicated that Musk also filed a motion seeking the removal of Sam Altman from leadership roles within OpenAI.

The legal proceedings between Musk and OpenAI are expected to continue as the court reviews the remaining claims.
