Undersea Gas Pipeline to Connect Alanya and Northern Cyprus
Türkiye and Northern Cyprus Launch Undersea Gas Pipeline Project from Alanya
Türkiye has officially launched a major energy infrastructure project that will connect Alanya with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) through an undersea natural gas pipeline.
The two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding, marking the first official step toward construction of the new energy link.
The project is expected to require an investment of approximately 700 million US dollars.
A 97-Kilometer Pipeline Beneath the Mediterranean
According to preliminary plans, the pipeline will stretch for approximately 97 kilometers along the seabed of the Mediterranean Sea, linking the Alanya coastline with the northern part of Cyprus.
Engineering and design work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, while the pipeline is expected to become operational in 2028.
Once completed, the pipeline will supply natural gas to power plants in Northern Cyprus, improving the region's energy security and supporting a more stable electricity supply.
Key Facts About the Project
