Türkiye Expands and Modernizes Railway Network Over 24 Years

Türkiye’s railway network has expanded by nearly 3,000 kilometers since 2002, according to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.

The network grew from 10,948 kilometers to 13,919 kilometers during this period. At the same time, Türkiye built 2,251 kilometers of high-speed railway from scratch.

🚆 Railway Network Modernization

Alongside the expansion, existing railway lines have also been renewed and modernized.

• 61% of railway lines are now covered by signaling systems.
• More than half of the railway network has been electrified.

🚄 Growth of High-Speed Rail

Türkiye became the sixth country in Europe and the eighth worldwide to operate high-speed trains.

Since high-speed rail services began in 2009, they have carried 114 million passengers, according to Uraloğlu.
