Deposit Return System for Bottles and Cans Starts in Türkiye
Türkiye Launches Nationwide Deposit Return System for Bottles and Cans from July 1
Starting July 1, 2026, Türkiye will introduce a nationwide deposit return system called “Depozitosu Olan Ambalajlar (DOA)”. Under the new program, residents will be able to return plastic, glass, and aluminum beverage containers and receive their deposit money back.
Packaging included in the system will carry a special DOA logo, making it easy for consumers to identify eligible bottles and cans.
How the system will work
- After use, bottles and cans can be returned to designated collection points or reverse vending machines.
- The deposit amount will be credited through the official DOA mobile application.
- Users will be able to track returns digitally.
How the refunded money can be used
- Transferred to a bank account.
- Withdrawn via ATMs.
- Used for purchases.
Where collection points will be located
- Supermarkets and retail stores.
- Cafés and restaurants.
- Hotels and shopping centers.
- Airports and hospitals.
Authorities estimate that the system could contribute around 30 billion Turkish lira annually to the economy by reducing waste and increasing recycling efficiency.
According to official projections, approximately 25 billion pieces of packaging are expected to be collected and sent for recycling every year once the system is fully operational.
