Turkish Stars Recreate the 1980s With AI

Turkish Stars Recreate the 1980s With AI

A new nostalgic trend is gaining popularity on social media in Türkiye, with celebrities using artificial intelligence to recreate their appearance in the style of the 1980s.

The AI-generated images feature hairstyles, clothing, makeup and photography styles associated with the era, giving modern celebrities an alternative retro look.

The trend has already attracted a number of well-known Turkish singers, actors and television personalities, including Nükhet Duru, Ebru Gündeş, Berfu Yenenler and Uğur Güneş.

Turkish Stars Go Back to the 1980s With AI

One of the celebrities to join the trend was singer Nükhet Duru. She shared a stylized image on social media and joked about the popularity of the trend, noting that the look was not so unfamiliar to her generation.

“It is a trend now, but we looked like this in the 1980s too,” Nükhet Duru wrote.

Ebru Gündeş also joined the trend, using Sezen Aksu’s song Şinanay in her post to add to the nostalgic atmosphere.

Berfu Yenenler shared a family version of the trend, posting an AI-styled image with her husband Eser Yenenler and their sons under the caption “Yenenlers from the 1980s.”

More Turkish Celebrities Join the Trend

The retro-style images have also appeared on the social media accounts of other Turkish entertainment figures.

  • actor Uğur Güneş;
  • Kantug Tuğray and Begüm Topçu;
  • Gökhan Arsoy and his wife Taylan Kümeli;
  • actress Esra Akkaya;
  • singer Dilan Çıtak;
  • singer Zara;
  • former basketball player Kerem Tunçeri.

Gökhan Arsoy accompanied his image with his wife with the words, “If only we lived in those times.” Esra Akkaya also referred to popular culture from the period, asking her followers whether any participants in aerobics competitions were still among her audience.

Why the 1980s Aesthetic Is Trending Again

The trend highlights how artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common in everyday social media culture. AI tools allow users to transform modern photographs into images resembling photographs from previous decades within minutes.

The latest wave combines nostalgia and AI technology. Instead of simply remembering the 1980s, users can create an alternative version of how they might have looked during the period.

The participation of popular Turkish celebrities has helped make the retro format more visible on social media, with AI-generated 1980s-style images continuing to appear across Turkish entertainment accounts.
