ISTANBUL – Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the country will highlight the “Zero Waste” initiative during the upcoming COP31 climate conference.

The initiative, which inspired the International Zero Waste Day proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2022, aims to strengthen global efforts to prevent waste crises and promote sustainable production and consumption 🌍.

“Zero Waste practices are key to sustainable development and environmental protection at both national and international levels,” says the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Launched in 2017 under the patronage of Emine Erdoğan, the initiative led to the official recognition of March 30 as International Zero Waste Day 📅. It encourages countries to adopt practical measures to reduce waste and protect the environment.

At COP31, Turkey plans to promote Zero Waste as a key pillar of sustainable development, fostering global strategies for effective waste management and environmental responsibility.
