Driver in Turkey Wins Compensation After Wrong Fuel Was Filled

In Turkey, the Consumer Arbitration Committee (Tüketici Hakem Heyeti) has ordered a fuel station to compensate a vehicle owner after the wrong type of fuel was mistakenly filled into his car.

The incident occurred when an employee at the gas station refueled a car with diesel instead of petrol. As a result, the vehicle suffered mechanical damage, and the owner was forced to pay for repairs.

After reviewing the case, the committee ruled that the responsibility lies with the fuel station and ordered full compensation for the consumer’s losses.

The decision was based on the conclusion that incorrect refueling constitutes a poorly provided service, and any damage caused by staff error must be covered by the company.

Experts remind drivers: if incorrect fuel is discovered after refueling, it is important not to start the engine, keep the receipt, and document all repair costs. If the station refuses compensation, consumers can apply to the Consumer Arbitration Committee.
