Heavy Rain Expected in Türkiye Before Warm Spring Weather
Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Türkiye Before Spring Warm-Up
Türkiye will face a short period of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds before a noticeable rise in temperatures and the arrival of stable spring weather, according to the Turkish State Meteorological Service.
A rain front moving from the west will affect the Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean regions, Central Anatolia, and the Black Sea coast.
Yellow Weather Alert in Several Provinces
Authorities have issued a yellow-level weather warning due to potential risks in several provinces:
- Izmir
- Manisa
- Aydin
- Yalova
- Kocaeli
- Sakarya
- Duzce
These areas may experience thunderstorms, strong winds, flash floods, falling trees, and roof damage.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in Istanbul, especially on the Asian side and around the Bosphorus.
Weather Front Moving East
The system is expected to move eastward and leave western regions by the morning of April 23. In eastern provinces such as Ardahan and Kars, temperatures may drop further, bringing sleet and brief snowfall.
Warm and Sunny Weather Coming Soon
After the system passes, clear skies and a significant temperature increase are expected across Türkiye by the weekend.
In southern regions, especially along the Mediterranean coast and southeast, temperatures may reach 27–28°C.
“True spring weather is about a week away,” said meteorologist Orhan Sen.
From May 1, western regions including Istanbul may see temperatures above seasonal norms, with conditions sometimes resembling early summer. While short-term showers may still occur in some inland and eastern areas, the overall trend points to warmer and more stable spring weather across the country.
