Retail Sales in Turkey Rise 11.4% in April
Retail sales in Turkey increased by 11.4% year-on-year in April, according to data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on 16 June.
The latest figures show continued consumer activity growth, despite mixed performance across different trade segments.
Retail and Wholesale Performance
- Retail trade sales: +11.4% year-on-year
- Trade sales (overall): +0.1% year-on-year
- Wholesale trade sales: -3.3% year-on-year
Strong Growth in Key Categories
Several sectors recorded notable increases in April:
- Non-food products (excluding fuel): +14.5%
- Food, beverages and tobacco: +7.6%
- Automotive fuel: +2.7%
- Computers, books and telecom equipment: +18.6%
- Online sales: +17.9%
E-commerce and technology-related retail segments continue to show the fastest growth in consumer demand.
Monthly Decline in Sales
Despite annual growth, retail activity declined on a monthly basis in April:
- Retail sales: -1.7% month-on-month
- Trade sales: -2.7% month-on-month
- Wholesale trade: -3.7% month-on-month
Overall Turnover Growth Across Sectors
Separate TÜİK data shows that the total turnover index, covering industry, construction, trade, and services, rose by 35.2% year-on-year in April.

- Construction: +32.2%
- Trade: +33.5%
- Services: +34.3%
The data reflects strong annual economic momentum, despite short-term monthly fluctuations in retail activity.
