The official website of the :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0} (Turkish Migration Authority) has updated the information regarding residence permit fees for foreign nationals.
This update is not based on rumors. The new tariffs are now officially published on the government website.
The changes are based on the provisions of :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}, which regulates state fees and charges in Turkey.
Legal Basis for the Fee Calculation
According to the law, the principle of reciprocity is applied when determining residence permit fees. The authorized body responsible for setting these tariffs is the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance.
In practice, this means that the amount a foreign citizen pays for a residence permit depends on how Turkish citizens are treated in that person’s home country.
Who Is Exempt from Paying Residence Permit Fees
In accordance with Article 88 of Law No. 492, residence permits are issued free of charge for the following categories:
- Students studying in Turkish schools or universities
- Persons of Turkish origin
- Holders of long-term residence permits
- Victims of human trafficking
In addition, citizens of the following countries are fully exempt from paying the residence permit fee:
Czech Republic, Denmark, Ireland, Kosovo, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkmenistan, Palestine, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
An additional exception applies to German citizens applying for a family residence permit. They are also exempt from this fee.
New Tariffs for Those Required to Pay
For citizens of countries subject to the fee, Tariff (III/1) of Law No. 492 applies:
- Up to 1 month — 348.10 TL per day (the total for the first month cannot be less than 653.70 TL and not more than 3,359.90 TL)
- For each month after the first — 2,232.30 TL
Estimated Total Cost of a Residence Permit
Based on the published tariffs, the approximate total cost is:
- 1-year residence permit — approximately 27,915 TL
- 2-year residence permit — approximately 56,935 TL
These amounts are significantly higher than in previous years and may come as a surprise to many applicants.

At this stage, these are officially published tariffs. Practical confirmation is expected from applicants submitting residence permit renewals in the coming days.
According to the information published on the Migration Authority’s website, these changes have already come into effect.
