Türkiye’s Population Surpasses 86.3 Million in July 2026

Türkiye’s population reached 86.32 million as of July 1, according to official data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

The country’s population increased by 228,434 people during the first half of 2026, rising from 86.09 million at the end of 2025.

Between May 1 and July 1 alone, Türkiye’s population grew by 123,904 people.

Population Growth in the First Half of 2026

According to TurkStat, Türkiye’s total population stood at 86.09 million at the end of 2025. By July 1, 2026, the figure had reached 86.32 million.

Türkiye added more than 228,000 residents in just six months.

Men and Women

The gender distribution of the population remains almost evenly balanced:

  • Men: 43.17 million, or 50.01% of the population.
  • Women: 43.15 million, or 49.99% of the population.

The difference between the number of men and women is relatively small, with men accounting for just 0.02 percentage points more of the total population.

The Largest Age Groups

People aged 25 to 29 represent the largest five-year age group in Türkiye, with approximately 6.66 million people.

They are followed by:

  • Ages 10–14: 6.56 million people.
  • Ages 15–19: 6.40 million people.

The figures show that Türkiye continues to have a large population of young and working-age residents.

Türkiye’s Ageing Population

At the same time, the number of older residents continues to grow. The population aged 65 and over reached 9.79 million people, representing approximately 11.3% of Türkiye’s total population.

People aged 65 and over now account for more than one in ten residents of Türkiye.

Why Türkiye’s Population Matters

Population growth and demographic changes have a direct impact on Türkiye’s cities, housing demand, infrastructure and local economies. The distribution of younger, working-age and older residents can also influence future demand for housing, healthcare, transportation and other services.

With Türkiye’s population continuing to increase, demographic trends remain an important factor for understanding the country’s economic and real estate markets.
