Three Major New Rules Come into Effect in Turkey
Three Major New Regulations Take Effect in Turkey from July 1
Starting July 1, Turkey has introduced three significant regulatory changes that will impact daily life for millions of residents across the country.
♻️ Deposit Return System for Bottles and Cans
A nationwide deposit return system has been launched across all 81 provinces. Under the new scheme, consumers will receive 1 Turkish lira for every eligible bottle or can returned to designated recycling machines.
The initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and increase recycling rates across the country.
🚗 New Motor Insurance Rules
Significant updates have been introduced to compulsory traffic insurance regulations. Compensation for vehicle depreciation will now be calculated automatically, without requiring a separate application from vehicle owners.
The list of covered medical expenses has also been expanded. In addition, many administrative procedures have been digitized and can now be completed via e-Devlet, mobile applications, email, and SMS services.
🍽 More Transparent Restaurant Menus
New transparency requirements have been introduced for the food and beverage sector.
- Chain restaurants must now display calorie information and allergen details on menus.
- Other restaurants are required to comply by the end of 2026.
- Cafés will have until the end of 2027 to fully implement the new standards.
The new regulations are part of Turkey’s broader effort to improve environmental sustainability, consumer protection, and digital transformation of public services.
