Turkey Introduces Digital Museum Access Replacing MüzeKart

Turkey Introduces Digital Museum Access Replacing MüzeKart

Turkey launches digital museum access replacing MüzeKart

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, in cooperation with Türk Telekom, has launched a large-scale digital access system for museums and archaeological sites across the country. Turkish citizens will now be able to enter museums using their T.C. Identity Card or a QR code in a mobile application, without needing a separate physical MüzeKart.

Humanity spent thousands of years building palaces and ancient cities, only for it all to come down to: “please present your QR code at the turnstile.” Technological progress is merciless.

What will change

  • T.C. Identity Card will be integrated into the MüzeKart system
  • The system will cover 216 museums and historical sites across the country
  • Main application: “Türkiye’nin Müzeleri”
  • Faster entry: simply tap an ID card or show a QR code
  • Physical MüzeKart cards will gradually be replaced by a digital format

Existing MüzeKart cards will continue to work until their expiration date. However, some locations, including certain sections of Topkapı Palace, will still require an additional ticket.

Important

The new system using the T.C. Identity Card is available only for Turkish citizens. Foreign tourists will continue to use MuseumPass Türkiye.

The system was officially launched on May 22, 2026, and will be implemented gradually as museums and archaeological sites are connected to the new infrastructure.
