Police Presence Increased in Turkish Schools After Armed Incidents

Following tragic events in the provinces of :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0} and :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}, Turkish authorities have introduced urgent security measures in schools across the country.

According to :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}, the decision was made jointly by the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of National Education to strengthen safety in educational institutions.

At least two police officers will now be stationed at every school across Turkey.

If necessary, additional patrol units may be deployed during school hours to ensure rapid response and increased control.

What Triggered the New Measures

The strengthened security follows two armed attacks that occurred on April 14 and 15.

  • In the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa, one person was killed and 16 were injured during an attack on a high school.
  • The following day, an attack on a school in Kahramanmaraş resulted in nine deaths and 13 injuries.

Authorities emphasize that these measures are aimed at preventing similar incidents and ensuring the safety of students and staff.

The increased police presence is considered a preventive step to restore confidence and maintain order in Turkish schools.

Officials state that the new system of constant monitoring and rapid response will remain in effect as long as necessary to guarantee a secure learning environment.
