Scammers Target Türkiye Residents with Fake Mother’s Day Gift Vouchers
Ahead of Mother’s Day, fraudsters have stepped up activity across Türkiye, spreading fake promotions on behalf of well-known brands through WhatsApp and social media.
Users receive links promising a gift voucher worth 50,000 Turkish lira. To claim the “reward,” they are asked to complete a short survey and then provide personal and banking details.
In several cases, victims are later told to transfer around 1,000 Turkish lira allegedly to “activate” the voucher or participate in the campaign.
The scammers use the names of popular brands and create fake websites that closely resemble official company pages.
How the scheme works
- Links are distributed via WhatsApp messages and social networks.
- Victims are promised high-value shopping vouchers.
- Personal data and bank card details are requested after a short survey.
- An additional payment is demanded under the pretext of activation.
What experts advise
- Do not click on suspicious links, even if they appear to come from known brands.
- Never enter bank card details on unfamiliar websites.
- Verify any promotions only through official company accounts and websites.
Authorities and cybersecurity specialists warn that such schemes become especially widespread before major holidays, when people are more likely to trust attractive “limited-time” offers.
