Istanbul Weather: Autumn and Rain Coming Next Week

Istanbul Weather: Autumn and Rain Coming Next Week

After a long period of summer-like heat, Istanbul is expected to see a noticeable change in weather next week. According to meteorologists, rain will arrive from Sunday, followed by cooler temperatures and more autumn-like conditions.

Warm weather continues through Saturday

September has already brought cooler evenings to Istanbul, although daytime temperatures have remained warm.

On Friday and Saturday, temperatures are expected to stay around 29–30°C, keeping the weather largely summer-like across the city.

“We are returning to autumn. We will need long-sleeved clothing much more often,” NTV meteorology editor Dilek Çalışkan said.

Rain arrives from Sunday

The weather is expected to begin changing on Sunday. Thunderstorms and heavy showers are forecast in the Thrace region, while the chance of rain in Istanbul will increase during the second half of the day.

  • Friday–Saturday: around 29–30°C and mostly warm.
  • Sunday: rain is possible, particularly in the afternoon.
  • Monday: rain and temperatures falling below 25°C.
  • Next week: occasional rainfall and temperatures reaching around 21–22°C on some days.

Some of the wettest days next week could see temperatures drop to 21–22°C.

What is happening elsewhere in Türkiye?

The change will not affect the whole country at the same time. According to the latest forecasts from Türkiye’s General Directorate of Meteorology, many regions are expected to remain mostly clear and sunny.

Partly cloudy conditions are forecast mainly in northern and eastern parts of the country. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in parts of eastern Van, while temperatures in several inland and eastern areas are expected to remain above seasonal averages.

Istanbul begins its seasonal transition

Istanbul will therefore be among the first major Turkish cities to experience a clear shift from summer conditions toward autumn weather.

For residents and visitors, the main changes next week will be cooler daytime temperatures, a higher chance of rain and a greater need for warmer clothing, particularly in the mornings and evenings.
