Bluevision AI System Improves Maritime Safety in Turkey
Turkish Company Unveils AI System to Enhance Maritime Safety
Turkish defense technology company HAVELSAN has introduced a new artificial intelligence-based system called Bluevision, designed to significantly improve maritime safety and situational awareness at sea.
The system is intended for use across a wide range of maritime platforms, including commercial vessels, luxury yachts, unmanned surface vehicles, and military ships.
How Bluevision Works
Bluevision integrates data from multiple sources, including cameras, thermal imaging sensors, and the Automatic Identification System to create a unified real-time picture of the surrounding maritime environment.
Unlike traditional systems, Bluevision does not rely solely on radar or camera input. Instead, it combines multiple data streams to generate a more complete and reliable situational overview at sea.
One of its key capabilities is detecting small or hard-to-identify objects such as small boats, buoys, and people in the water that may not always be visible to radar systems.
Collision Prevention and Real-Time Alerts
The system continuously monitors maritime traffic and analyzes potential risks in real time.
When a potential collision or dangerous situation is detected, Bluevision provides both visual and audio alerts to operators, allowing faster decision-making and improved safety at sea.
Bluevision represents a shift toward intelligent maritime navigation systems that reduce human error and enhance operational safety through real-time data integration.
Already in Operational Use
The technology has already been deployed on several operational platforms. It is currently used on the Turkish Navy’s armed unmanned surface vehicle Sancar, where it supports autonomous navigation and search and rescue missions.
HAVELSAN has also integrated Bluevision into commercial maritime vessels through partnerships with shipbuilding companies, expanding its use into civilian shipping operations.
Expanding Role in Maritime Security
According to HAVELSAN, Bluevision is not limited to navigation support. The system can also be used for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, search and rescue, and maritime security operations.
The platform is designed to continuously learn and adapt through software updates and artificial intelligence models, improving its performance over time.
Experts suggest that systems like Bluevision could play an important role in the future of autonomous shipping and digital maritime safety infrastructure.
