First Watermelons of the Season Now Available Across Türkiye

First Watermelons of the Season Hit Turkish Markets

The first watermelons of the season have appeared on markets across Türkiye, already attracting shoppers’ attention. Sales are particularly lively in Mersin, a region known for getting fresh fruits and vegetables earlier than other areas.

Watermelons are sold at around 50 Turkish Lira per kilogram and are also offered in portioned slices for convenience.

Watermelon Prices and Formats

  • Price per 1 kg: ~50 TRY
  • Quarter watermelon: 65–90 TRY
  • Sale formats: slices, halves, quarters

Despite the early season, demand is already high, pleasantly surprising vendors.

Why Vendors Sell in Slices

Vendors explain that selling watermelons in portions makes the product more accessible and convenient, especially early in the season when prices are higher.

“We brought out the first watermelons of this season. We cut them into slices so that customers can buy more easily and affordably. We are selling them at 50 Lira per kilogram, and demand is very good,” said vendor Mehmet Akça.

Early Customer Feedback

Residents of Mersin who have tried the first watermelons report pleasant taste and sweetness, even at the season’s start.

The watermelon season in Türkiye is now officially open, with a wider assortment and gradually lower prices expected in the coming weeks.
