🛣️ Antalya – Mersin: Southern Türkiye Coastal Highway Is Transforming
Work continues on one of the largest infrastructure projects in southern Türkiye — the modernization of the Akdeniz Sahil Yolu coastal highway, which connects Antalya and Mersin. 🚧
The road is considered strategically important for tourism, trade, and domestic logistics across the region.
The route runs along the Mediterranean coastline and connects major destinations including Antalya, Alanya, Gazipaşa, Anamur, and Mersin. 🌴 While previously known for its breathtaking views, it was also one of the most challenging roads for drivers due to sharp bends, steep serpentines, and dangerous cliffside sections.
🚧 What is being built
The project includes a large-scale upgrade of the entire road infrastructure:
- 28 modern tunnels
- 16 viaducts
- 8 bridges
These structures are designed to bypass hazardous mountain sections, reduce steep climbs and descents, and significantly improve road safety across the entire route.
⏱️ Travel time is being reduced
One of the most important benefits of the project is the dramatic reduction in travel time:
- Before: 10–11 hours
- Now: around 6–7 hours
- After completion: approximately 5 hours
For residents, this means faster intercity travel, while tourists will enjoy much more convenient road trips along the Mediterranean coast. 🚗🌊
