Antalya–Alanya Highway May Be Extended to Gazipaşa and Mersin

Antalya–Alanya Highway May Be Extended to Gazipaşa and Mersin

The planned Antalya–Alanya highway could be significantly expanded in the future, with a possible extension toward Gazipaşa and a connection to the road network leading to Mersin.

The plans were announced by former Turkish Foreign Minister and AK Party deputy Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

What Is Planned?

The project currently under development could be expanded in several stages:

  • The highway under construction could be extended from Alanya toward Gazipaşa.
  • The project would provide faster and more convenient access to Gazipaşa–Alanya Airport (GZP).
  • In the future, the highway could be connected to the road network leading toward Mersin.

Why Is the Project Important?

The existing coastal highway carries heavy traffic, particularly between the resort towns of Antalya's eastern coast. Expanding the road network could help improve traffic flow and make travel between the region's cities more convenient.

A future connection toward Mersin could also strengthen the transport links between the eastern parts of Antalya Province and neighbouring regions.

Planning and Land Procedures

Preparatory work is currently underway for the project. This includes documents related to land-use planning and land acquisition required for the construction of the planned route.

The extension toward Gazipaşa and the future connection toward Mersin are planned developments, rather than completed road sections.

A Future Transport Corridor Along the Coast

If the planned extensions are implemented, the project could create a more continuous modern transport corridor along Türkiye's Mediterranean coast, improving connections between Antalya, Alanya, Gazipaşa and, potentially, Mersin.

For residents, visitors and businesses in the region, better road connections could make access to settlements and Gazipaşa–Alanya Airport more convenient.
