Construction of the first power unit at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Turkey has been completed, marking a major milestone in the country’s largest energy project.
Cold hydrostatic tests of the VVER-1200 reactor have already begun, moving the project closer to commissioning.
According to project data, only a few weeks remain before the start of the first startup operations of the unit.
Major Energy Project for Turkey
The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is being built as Turkey’s first nuclear power facility and is considered one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the country’s modern history.
The project includes four power units, each with a capacity of 1200 megawatts, which will significantly contribute to Turkey’s long-term energy security and diversification.

Workforce and International Cooperation

Cold Testing Phase Underway
The cold hydrostatic testing phase of the VVER-1200 reactor is an important step before fuel loading and operational startup. This stage ensures the integrity and safety of the reactor systems under controlled conditions.
The project is progressing toward commissioning, with final preparatory works entering their last phase before operational launch.
The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is expected to become a key element of Turkey’s future energy strategy, reducing dependence on external energy sources and strengthening national energy security.
