🍋 Alanya's Signature Lemonade Combines Lemon and Roasted Peanuts

As summer temperatures continue to rise in the popular resort city of Alanya, one of the region's most distinctive traditional drinks is attracting growing attention. Alanya's signature lemonade, officially recognized with a geographical indication, offers an unusual combination of fresh lemon and roasted unsalted peanuts.

ℹ️ The drink is one of Alanya's geographically registered local products and is promoted as part of the municipality's "Alanya Culinary Heritage" project.

🏛 A Protected Local Specialty

The preparation of the lemonade was recently showcased at the Alanya Municipality Culinary Heritage House, where visitors could learn about its history and traditional serving method.

According to project coordinator and chef Nur Macit, geographical indication status helps preserve the authentic characteristics of regional products while supporting local producers.

She explained that Alanya currently has six geographically registered local products:

• Alanya avocado.
• Carob.
• Alanya banana.
• Loquat.
• Gülüklü soup.
• Peanut lemonade.

🥜 What Makes the Lemonade Unique?

The most distinctive feature of Alanya's lemonade is its serving style. Freshly prepared lemonade is accompanied by roasted, peeled and unsalted peanuts, creating a flavor combination found nowhere else in Türkiye.

"At first, the combination of lemon and roasted peanuts may seem unusual, but it gives the drink its unique character. The peanuts balance the strong acidity of the lemon and add a pleasant roasted aroma and crunchy texture," said chef Nur Macit.

📌 Alanya is the only region in Türkiye where lemonade is traditionally served with roasted peanuts.

Beyond its refreshing taste, the drink has an important place in the local culture. Peanut lemonade is traditionally offered to guests during weddings, celebrations and special occasions, making it a symbol of Alanya's hospitality.

Although it is especially popular during the hot summer months, residents continue to serve it throughout the year at family gatherings and festive events.
