Visa-free rules in Turkey

Visa free rules will continue, according to press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey on the 09.01.2016.

For citizens of certain countries in Europe and the Middle East countries requirement of valid visa is still mandatory. To be able to enter Turkey, they need to prepare all the necessary documents. This can be done on the official web page https://www.evisa.gov.tr/

  • Citizens of Norway, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar - must obtain a visa.
  • Citizens of Germany, Sweden, Finland, Iran, Lebanon may stay in Turkey continuously visa free for 90 days. For those who want to have a longer vacation in Turkey (more than permitted 90 days in six months) must obtain a long-term visa.
  • Afghan citizens must obtain visa even for a short term - 30-days visit.
  • Citizens of Iraq also have to apply for a short term visa, and also should be careful about entrance restrictions – with a short term visa citizens of Iraq can only enter Turkey via listed airports in the cities: Istanbul – Ataturk International airport, Istanbul – Sabiha Gokce Airport, Ankara – Esenboga, Adana – Shakirpasa, Gaziantep and Antalya airports.

Property owners have a number of privileges. Anyone who bought an apartment can apply for a residence permit (ikamet) and stay in Turkey for as long as wished.
Compliance with the time frame established by the Turkish government, is regarded as a violation. That can lead to a fine or a ban on entry of the Republic of Turkey for 5 years.
